Ocala man and Ocklawaha gal pal popped on drug charges during traffic stop

Christopher Scott Easley

An Ocala man who was driving erratically and his Ocklawaha lady friend were jailed early Thursday morning following a traffic stop in a motel parking lot.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy stopped a red Hyundai sedan in the parking lot of the Queen’s Gardens Resort, at 3340 S Pine Ave. in Ocala, at about 12:30 a.m. The deputy reported seeing the passenger car almost create a traffic crash when the driver, later identified as 31-year-old Christopher Scott Easley, made an improper lane changed directly in front of another vehicle, a sheriff’s office report states.

Before coming to a stop, Easley drove to the south side of the motel and reached out the window to open the door. The deputy believed Easley was going to flee so he quickly grabbed him and secured him in handcuffs. The deputy then searched him and found in his left pocket a long plastic piece with a small metal tip, a lighter and Brillo pad wire.

Brittinie Blaze Rooney

The deputy removed 22-year-old Brittinie Blaze Rooney from the vehicle and then asked the owner for permission to search the car, which he received. He spotted a green pack of 305 cigarettes in plain view of the driver’s seat that contained a Brillo pad wire, a glass pipe and plastic holding a white powdery substance. Easley admitted the pipe belonged to him but didn’t say anything about the substance, the report says.

The deputy also found a green leafy substance in a plastic wrapper on the ground where Rooney was standing. He asked her to be honest with him and she admitted that it was hers, the report says, adding that the substance field-tested positive for marijuana.

Both Easley and Rooney were placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail. Easley was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He was being held on no bond and is due in court Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.

Rooney was charged with possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams and released Thursday morning on $1,000 bond. Her next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
