Window-breaking Ocala man jailed after nasty tussle ends at Belleview Police Department

Daniel Barron Phillips

An Ocala man who got into a nasty tiff with his lady friend after she lost her job found himself behind bars Wednesday morning.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to the Belleview Police Department and when he arrived, 26-year-old Daniel Barron Phillips said that he and the victim had argued and then left their residence on SE 32nd Street. He said they stopped at the Belleview Police Department and he broke one of the vehicle’s windows, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim told the deputy that the two were arguing when Phillips pushed her onto a bed and jumped on her, striking her leg with his knee. The deputy noted that she had a large bruise and a swelling lump that was forming on her leg.

The victim said Phillips wouldn’t leave her alone after they left the house so she stopped at the Belleview Police Department to report the incident. She said Phillips asked her not to report what had happened and then broke the passenger-side window when she said she was going to speak to law enforcement, the report says.

After being read his rights, Phillips claimed the victim hurt her leg at work and he didn’t touch her. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He is being held on $500 bond and is due in court on Feb. 13 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
