Driver trapped in wreckage on I-75 after vehicle goes airborne and slams into trees

Multiple crews from Marion County Fire Rescue were called to a violent crash on Interstate 75 early Tuesday morning after a vehicle went airborne and slammed into trees.

Crews from Marion County Fire Rescue worked together early Tuesday morning to extricate an injured driver from a mangled vehicle after it slammed into a ditch and crashed into trees near Mile Marker 361 on Interstate 75.
The driver of this vehicle was declared a trauma alert and was transported to a local hospital after being extricated from the wreckage.

A 911 caller reported that a white passenger vehicle had been swerving in the northbound lanes of the interstate near Mile Marker 361 before crashing into a ditch and launching into trees alongside the roadway, a report says.

When firefighters arrived a short time later at 5:32 a.m., they found a mangled white passenger vehicle. The car had impacted the trees about 15 feet above ground, coming to rest on the driver’s side, the report says.

The driver, who was trapped inside the car by the dashboard and the A post, was declared a trauma alert. After firefighters quickly stabilized the vehicle, crews cut away the roof and it took 39 minutes to safely remove the driver from the wreckage. A critical care unit then transported the injured motorist to a local trauma hospital.
