Ocala man involved in fatal crash last year charged with DUI manslaughter

An Ocala man who was involved in a fatal crash last year is now facing a charge of DUI manslaughter.

Shawn Henry Matthews, 35, also has been charged with driving with license suspended or revoked (for DUI) following toxicology results from a medical blood draw. He was involved in a crash on Pine Avenue near 17th Street on Oct. 24 that left motorcyclist David Buchanan dead.

Mathews has previous license suspensions and convictions for DUI. He is being held on $75,000 bond at the Marion County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court March 3 at 9 a.m.

Mathews also was arrested in September and charged with DUI after a woman reported he took the keys to her vehicle and took off while drunk. He was stopped a short time later by a Marion County sheriff’s deputy and transported to the county jail, where his blood-alcohol content was measured was measured at .219 and .217 – more than twice the legal limit.
