20-year-old Ocala man jailed after violent spat with gal pal caught on video

Jesse James Gainey

A 20-year-old Ocala man was jailed Thursday afternoon after a battle with his lady friend turned nasty.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies spoke with 20-year-old Jesse James Gainey, who was standing in the front yard of their residence. Gainey admitted that he and the victim were engaged in a verbal disagreement but denied that it became physical, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim, who had walked a short distance away from the residence, told deputies that the two were arguing and Gainey pushed her, so she pushed him back. A neighbor who called 911 for help said he saw a portion of the argument and witnessed Gainey drag the victim from the passenger side of a vehicle parked in the front yard. The neighbor also recorded the incident on his phone, the report says.

Gainey was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery and probation violations for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams. He is due in court Feb. 18 and March 9 to answer to the charges.
