Woman charged with stealing car in Ocala days after release from jail

Lindsay Michelle Wilson

An Old Town woman who spent more than three months in the Marion County Jail for drug possession is back behind bars less than a week after her release, this time for allegedly stealing a car in Ocala.

Lindsay Michelle Wilson, 31, was charged Sunday with grand theft of a motor vehicle. She’s been in and out of jail nearly a dozen times since 2011, mostly on drug-related charges. Wilson was just released on Feb. 4 after being arrested Oct. 17, 2019 and convicted of possession of cocaine and possession of drug equipment, according to jail records.

On Sunday, Ocala Police received a report that a purple Ford F-150 had been stolen. A short time later, an officer found the vehicle unoccupied parked on the west side of Queens Garden Resort at 3340 S. Pine Ave. Officers formed a perimeter around the hotel complex and kept an eye on the vehicle, according to the police report.

The officers saw Wilson come out of a hotel room and get into the truck. They stopped her just as she backed out of the parking spot, according to the report.

After waiving her Miranda rights, Wilson told officers that a man she called “Frankie,” who had reported the vehicle stolen, told her his truck was at Queens Garden. She said Frankie told her a red-headed female would be at the hotel and would give her the keys. Wilson said she got a ride from a friend to the hotel, where the red-headed woman gave her the keys and instructed to take the truck to meet Frankie at the RaceTrac gas station on South Pine Avenue, the report said.

An officer spoke by phone with the car owner, “Frankie,” who said he didn’t know who stole is vehicle, nor did he communicate with anyone about bringing it to him, according to the report.

Wilson was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she’s being held on $5,000 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on March 10.
