Ocala woman jailed after child hurt during struggle

Charlene Rena Marie Patty

A 26-year-old Ocala woman is in the Marion County Jail after she allegedly battered a man and woman and injured a child during a dispute that started when she showed up to see her kids.

Charlene Rena Marie Patty was charged Sunday with two counts of battery and one count of cruelty towards a child without great bodily harm. Patty told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she was invited into the home and when she made demands to see her children, the male victim struck her and tried to throw her out of the home, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Patty said she grabbed the female victim, causing the child to fall and hit her head on the floor. She said she then left the home and ran toward the patrol car, which was pulling up to the residence. Patty had a knot on her head but couldn’t say where it came from, the report said.

Patty said she couldn’t remember everything that happened during the incident and could only provide bits and pieces of information. She said she lived at the residence but had not been at home for several days, according to the report.

The male victim told the deputy that Patty came to the home, knocked on the door and demanded to take the children back. He said when he refused, Patty shoved her way into the home, pushing the victim backward. The male victim said when he tried to push Patty back, she started striking him on his arm and chest, causing a purple bruise and redness on his chest, the report said.

The male victim said Patty then tried to grab the child out of the female victim’s arms. When she was unable to grab the child, Patty grabbed the female victim by the hair, pulled her towards her and tried again to grab the child. The male victim said Patty yanked the child out of the female victim’s arms, causing the child to land face-first on the ground, according to the report.

The female victim said she was in the living room when Patty knocked on the door and the male victim went to answer it. She said she saw Patty push the male victim back into the home. The female victim said at that point she grabbed the children to move them into another room. She said Patty then reached over, grabbed her by the hair and pulled her towards her. The female victim said Patty pulled the child from her arms and the child fell to the ground, the report said.

Two other witnesses in the home gave similar accounts of the incident. Patty was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she’s being held on $10,000 bond. She’ll appear in Marion County Court on March 10.
