Nine injured in fiery three-vehicle crash on West Hwy. 40 in Marion County

Nine people were injured – two critically – early Monday morning in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in Marion County.

Multiple crews from Ocala Fire Rescue and Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the 7:24 a.m. incident and when they arrived, they found multiple victims on the ground and a vehicle on fire.

Three vehicles – a brown pickup truck, a white pickup truck and a compact SUV – were involved in the crash in the 6100 block of West Hwy. 40. Seven people had been riding in the brown pickup, with five of those being eject from the bed of the truck during the violent crash.

Ocala and Marion County firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze that was engulfing the front of the brown pickup, while paramedics from both agencies assessed the nine patients. Two victims were deemed as trauma alerts and multiple medic units were requested to transport the three drivers and six passengers to area hospitals.
