Ocala man accused of shaking woman during drunken rage

David Torres Arvelo

A 61-year-old Ocala man with a previous battery conviction was arrested Monday for allegedly shaking a woman during an alcohol-fueled spat.

David Torres Arvelo was charged with domestic battery (second or subsequent offense). A computer search of his criminal history revealed Arvelo was arrested in August 2002 and charged with domestic battery. The charge was amended to simple battery with a final disposition of guilty in February 2003.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she and Arvelo were arguing on Sunday when he grabbed her by both wrists and shook her, causing bruises on her wrists. The victim said Arvelo had been drinking alcohol and was intoxicated. The deputy observed red marks on both of the victim’s outer wrists, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy tried to speak with Arvelo, who appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative. He said he didn’t recall what happened on the night of the incident. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he’s being held on $5,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on March 24.
