Crying and apologetic Ocala man jailed after spat

Nelson A. Guzman

An Ocala man was arrested the day after he allegedly battered a woman and then cried and apologized afterwards.

Nelson A. Guzman, 54, was charged Sunday afternoon with simple domestic battery in connection with the incident, which happened around 2 a.m. Friday. The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she didn’t call law enforcement at the time because Guzman apologized and was crying, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Guzman became upset when she told him she couldn’t drive a vehicle when he asked her to. She said he kicked the glass on the oven, breaking it. The victim said she tried to leave the residence, but Guzman grabbed her and pushed her to the couch, the report said.

The victim said she tried to scream, but Guzman had his hand over her mouth. She said she tried to kick him, but he wouldn’t get off. The victim said at that point, Guzman released her and she tried to leave again. She said he grabbed her again and threw her on the couch and put his hand over her mouth, preventing her from screaming. The victim said Guzman finally let her go and told her to sit at the table with him, according to the report.

The deputy observed bruises on the victim’s left wrist and left upper chest, and small abrasions on the inside of her upper lip, the report said.

Guzman is being held in the Marion County Jail on $500 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on April 7.
