Ocala seeking artists to create selfie wall at Brick City Center for the Arts

The City of Ocala’s Cultural Arts and Sciences Division has announced a call to artists for a selfie wall mural. The opportunity is open to artists working or residing within the Ocala/Marion County area.

The new selfie wall will be located on the south-facing interior wall at Brick City Center for the Arts, located at 23 SW Broadway St. Artists are asked to submit concepts that will allow several people to be photographed at one time.

The artist or team that is awarded the project will receive a $5,000 honorarium and must have experience in mural work. This opportunity is being made possible by a private donation.

The purpose of the wall is to support the local arts community while offering an interactive space for residents and visitors to the area. Once commissioned, the newly created selfie wall will expand the artistic mural displays within the City of Ocala.

This project will be on display long-term in Downtown Ocala. The selfie wall mural is intended to engage the pubic, create an art experience and add cultural benefit for those who use it and the community at large.

The City of Ocala Cultural Arts and Sciences Office creates opportunities for public art to transform ordinary spaces into destinations. The goal of the Art in City Spaces program is to foster creativity, discovery and thoughtfulness among citizens and visitors.

For submission guidelines, visit www.ocalafl.org/artistopportunities. Entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020. For more information, contact the Ocala Cultural Arts Office at (352) 629-8447 or sculpture@ocalafl.org.
