61-year-old Ocala woman claims $396.9 million Powerball jackpot

An Ocala resident has claimed a $396.9 million Powerball jackpot.

Sheryll Goedert, 61, managing member of Vacation Life LLC, claimed the prize from the drawing held on Jan. 29. She chose to receive the winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment in the amount of $276.6 million, the Florida Lottery announced.

The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased from the 7-Eleven minimart located at 4520 Bonita Beach Rd. in Bonita Springs. The retailer will receive a $100,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

Florida is among the top-selling Powerball states, topping more than $5.1 billion in sales and yielding more than $2 billion in education funding to date. Since Powerball launched in Florida in January 2009, the Florida Lottery has had more than 94.1 million winning tickets totaling more than $2.4 billion in prizes, including 13 jackpot winners. Florida also was one of three states nationally to have a winner in the world record-setting $1.58 billion Powerball jackpot in January 2016.

The Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $36 billion to education and sending more than 840,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The Lottery reinvests 98 percent of its revenue back into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,000 Florida retailers and contributions to education.
