Marion County Schools moving ahead with online distance learning for students

Marion County Public Schools are moving ahead with innovative plans to educate students during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Distance learning curriculum options will be available online to parents/families starting Tuesday, March 24. Paper copies also will be available at individual schools for parents to pick up. Curriculum is based on the Florida Standards Assessments and is the same as what students would learn in classrooms.

Online learning platforms will be available to students starting Monday, March 30. However, not all of the school district’s 43,000 students have reliable Internet service at home, nor do they all have mobile devices to use.

Parents/families are being asked to complete an at-home technology survey to help the district determine technology needs. The survey must be completed by Wednesday, March 25 and is available at www.marionschools.net.
Students can access libraries online and offline for reading options, as well as district WiFi services to download books to their devices.

The district’s “Grab & Go” meal service launches countywide on Tuesday, March 24.
A “Food 4 Kids” donation drive on the Downtown Ocala Square is set for Wednesday, March 25. This program benefits nearly 2,000 students and families each weekend and is sponsored by Interfaith Emergency Services.
