A Umatilla man with a long rap sheet was arrested Tuesday morning after an incident outside the Green Acres Country Store.
Patrick Leman Williams, 41, was charged with burglary with battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. Marion County Jail records show Williams with 10 prior arrests since 2001 on charges including grand theft, burglary, criminal mischief, contempt of court, fleeing and eluding, carrying a concealed weapon, and multiple drug and traffic offenses.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the store, located at 25300 SE Hwy. 42, and spoke with the victim, who said he has known Williams for over 10 years. He said Williams asked him for a lighter, and he told Williams he didn’t have one, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said his son went into the store, bought a lighter and returned to the truck. He said once his son gave him the lighter, he drove to the front of the store parking lot and tried to give it to Williams. The victim said Williams became agitated and started swearing and threatening the victim. He said Williams then “rushed” his vehicle and punched him in his mouth through the open window with a closed fist, the report said.
The victim’s son told the deputy he purchased a lighter that the victim tried to give to Williams. He said Williams became agitated and said he would kill the victim. The witness said the Williams stated, “(expletive deleted) you, (expletive deleted) you,” and punched the victim through the open driver’s door window, according to the report.
The deputy observed the victim had a freshly swollen bottom lip and a small amount of blood on his chin. The deputy also observed video footage of the incident that was not very clear but showed Williams lunging towards the driver’s door of the vehicle, the report said.
The deputy found Williams, wearing a camouflage backpack, pushing his bicycle and walking westbound along the 25300 block of Highway 42. Asked if he had any needles on him, Williams said there were needles in his backpack. A search turned up three hypodermic needles and a homemade metal pipe with burnt residue that tested positive for marijuana, according to the report.
After arriving at the jail, Williams spontaneously said, “I tried to slap him for lying.” He’s being held on $26,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on April 28.
