Two trauma alerted to local hospital after vehicle slams into tree

Two motorists were trauma alerted to a local hospital Friday after their vehicle slammed into a tree in Marion County.

Marion County firefighters provide assistance to two motorists who were injured when their vehicle slammed into a tree on Friday afternoon.

A 911 caller shortly after 1 p.m. reported that two people were trapped inside a dark blue passenger vehicle that had veered off the roadway and hit a tree. Marion County firefighters from Silver Springs Shores Station #17 arrived minutes later, confirmed the patients were entrapped and passed command to Belleview Engine Company #18. The crew aboard Heavy Rescue #1 used a winch to pull the vehicle away from the tree and firefighters then worked quickly to remove the injured patients, a report states.

The cause of the accident hasn’t been determined and remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
