Salt Springs man arrested in forest with meth and pipe

Brandon Darrell Yonn

A Salt Springs man was arrested on drug charges after being caught with meth and a drug pipe in the Ocala National Forest.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Wednesday to the 12500 block of NE Forest Road 33 to assist an FWC officer observed a man in a blue truck parked in the middle of the road who appeared to be sleeping.

The officer approached the vehicle to conduct a well-being check and the man, later identified as 28-year-old Brandon Darrell Yonn, was not sleeping and didn’t appear to be in medical distress. While talking to Yonn, the officer observed in plain view a pipe and a clear bag containing a crystal-like substance, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy took possession of the substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine. Vonn told the deputy the meth was his and he uses the pipe to smoke it. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released the next day on his own recognizance. Vonn will appear in Marion County Court on April 28.
