The Ocala Police Department is warning area residents about scammers who are claiming to be a detective or sergeant from the agency’s Major Crimes Bureau.
The callers are requesting money to pay for victim services. Ocala Police officials say the calls are fraud and are encouraging residents to avoid falling prey to the scammers. They say they should hang up immediately and never give any money or personal information out to the callers.
Anyone who has received one of the scam calls is asked to file an online report at www.ocalapd.com so the agency is aware of it.
