Ocala man charged with choking woman during drunken spat

Raymond A. Colon

An Ocala man is accused of strangling a woman during a recent drunken domestic spat.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Raymond A. Colon, 29, got into an argument after having some drinks. She said the spat escalated into a physical altercation and she hit her head against the wall. When asked how that happened, the victim wouldn’t answer, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Colon choked her during the incident. The deputy observed marks on the victim’s neck on both sides of her neck, just below the jawline, indicating strangulation occurred. The victim also had a raised lump on her forehead on the right side near her hairline. The swollen lump had redness and appeared to be fresh, the report said.

Colon told the deputy that he and the victim had been drinking alcohol and started to argue. He said the argument escalated to the point where they were both pushing and grabbing at each other, according to the report.

Colon was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released on $2,000 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on May 19.
