Vast majority of Marion County COVID-19 cases reported in Ocala

Marion County is reporting 130 Coronavirus cases with the overwhelming majority – 92 – being in Ocala.

Of those patients, 46 percent are men and 54 percent are women. There have been three deaths and 20 people have been treated at area hospitals.
Besides those living in Ocala and 16 others who call Summerfield home, six reside in Citra, four in Belleview, three in Dunnellon, two each in Anthony and Ocklawaha, and one each in Reddick, Silver Springs and The Villages.

It’s unclear if any of the Summerfield patients live in the retirement communities of Del Webb Spruce Creek, Stonecrest or Spruce Creek South, as that specific information isn’t provided by the Florida Department of Health.

Overall, 506 people have tested positive for the potentially deadly virus in the tri-county area. Those include 15 residents and/or staff members – six in Sumter County, five in Marion County and four in Lake County – at assisted living and nursing home facilities. A recent report stated that positive cases had been identified at two Marion County facilities – Pacifica Senior Living Ocala and Palm Garden of Ocala – but the number of patients at each wasn’t specified and it wasn’t clear if they were residents or staff members.

Sumter County added 10 patients – nine in Bushnell and one in Coleman – for a total of 163 COVID-19 cases. Of those patients – 69 percent are men and 36 percent are women – 68 live in The Villages. Of the others, 49 live in Bushnell, 21 in Lake Panasoffkee, seven each in Webster and Wildwood, three in Coleman, and one each in Oxford and Sumterville. Six cases also have been identified in the Lady Lake portion of the county.

Sumter County has had 11 deaths, including Villagers Carol Lynch and Debbie Butler. Thirty-six patients have required hospital care.

Lake County is reporting 213 Coronavirus cases, of which 49 percent are men and 51 percent are women. There have been seven deaths and 56 people have been hospitalized.
Besides the seven Lake County COVID-patients who live in The Villages and nine in Lady Lake, 75 reside in Clermont, 30 in Leesburg, 15 each in Eustis and Tavares, 13 each in Groveland and Mount Dora, 12 in Mascotte, five in Minneola, two in Sorrento and one each in Okahumpka, Montverde, Umatilla, Howey-in-the-Hills, Grand Island and Yalaha.

All told, Florida is reporting 27,869 COVID-19 cases, with 27,127 being Sunshine State residents. There have been 867 deaths and 4,226 patients have required hospitalization.
