Hair-burning Ocklawaha man jailed after woman claims sexual assault in camper

A tattoo-covered Ocklawaha man described as someone you would “instantly be scared of” is behind bars after a woman claimed he drugged her and then sexually assaulted her.

Marion County sheriff’s Major Crimes Det. Jessica Galler arrested 28‐year‐old Efthimios Michael Zachary Mikedis on Wednesday. He was charged with sexual battery and is being held in the Marion County Jail.

In January, a woman who was being treated at Waterford Lakes Emergency Department told Orlando Police officers that she had made contact with a man known as “Zak” – later identified as Mikedis – and he offered to give her a ride from Orange County to her aunt’s house in Marion County. She said he had what appeared to be a gun in his waistband when he arrived at her residence in a van driven by his mother, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that a second man who’s being sought, Robert McDaniel, also was in the van.

The woman said she told Mikedis she didn’t want to go but he told her “she had to.” She claimed that once she was inside the vehicle, Mikedis forced an unknown substance into her mouth and forced her to slide between the seats, holding her down when she attempted to sit up. She was then taken to his residence at 18038 SE 52nd St. in Ocklawaha, where she was led into a camper on the back of the property, the report says.

The woman said she asked Mikedis if he was going to take her to her aunt’s house but he replied, “Why don’t you just stay here?” She said she started blacking out and believed she was on the verge of being unconscious, the report says.
The woman claimed she was sexually battered by Mikedis, as well as “a secondary object.” During the incident, she said Mikedis said, “Go, go,” and a second person began sexually assaulting her, the report says.

Efthimios Michael Zachary Mikedis, 28, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside this camper at his home in Ocklawaha.

The woman said she eventually woke up and attempted to call an Uber but Mikedis also woke up and forced another unknown substance into her mouth. She said he then started burning her hair with a cigarette and held a pair of scissors to her throat and she started hallucinating due to the substance he had forced into her mouth, the report says.

The woman said Mikedis grabbed her by the hair and drug her across the property. She said he punched her in the back of the head, grabbed her by the hair again and then forced her into a vehicle driven by his mother. She was then driven to the Winn-Dixie parking lot on Silver Springs Boulevard and forced out of the vehicle, the report says.

Mikedis also is being held on a parole violation from a previous domestic battery by strangulation charge, as well as fraud and petit theft charges. He has been held in the jail 15 times since October 2009 on a litany of charges.
