Ocala Electric Utility recognized as Reliable Public Power Provider

Ocala Electric Utility has earned a Reliable Public Power Provider designation from the American Public Power Association for the electric service it provides to the community.

The designation, which is awarded for three years, recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Criteria include sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity. Ocala Electric Utility joins more than 275 public power utilities nationwide that hold the special designation.

The designees were notified recently and it marked the second time Ocala Electric Utility has been recognized with the prestigious title.

“We take pride in the work we do to engineer, construct and maintain a system that powers our community,” said Eric Weaver, interim director of Ocala Electric Utility. “It is awesome that Ocala Electric Utility is recognized as a top utility, the best of the best, on a national level.”

The American Public Power Association has offered the prestigious designation for 15 years. The Association is the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power 49 million people in 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training and operations.
