Ocala man back in jail on domestic battery charge

Jeffrey Allen Jones

An Ocala man was arrested for the third time in less than seven months after he allegedly struck a woman on the back of her head and put her in a bear hug.

Jeffrey Allen Jones, 28, was charged with domestic battery and violating bond conditions. He was previously charged in October 2019 with kidnapping/false imprisonment of a child under 13 and obstructing justice by intimidating or threatening a victim or witness. Jones was arrested again in November on a domestic battery charge and spent nearly two months in jail.

In the latest incident, which happened Wednesday, the victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Jones got into an argument in the bedroom. She said Jones grew upset and closed the bedroom door, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she tried to walk past Jones to open the door when he struck her on the back of her head with a closed fist. She said she was dizzy for a moment but as able to get out of the room, the report said.

The victim said she told both Jones and a person whose name was redacted from the report to get out of the residence. She said at that point, Jones came up behind her, picked her up with both arms and “bear hugged” her. The victim then told the other person to call 911, according to the report.

Jones was gone by the time the deputy arrived. He was arrested Thursday and is being held on $5,000 bond. Jones is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on May 13.
