48-year-old Lake County man dies of COVID-19 as state tops 37,000 cases

A Lake County man has succumbed to the Coronavirus – the 33rd virus-related death in the tri-county area.

The latest victim was identified Tuesday as a 48-year-old man who hadn’t traveled recently but had been in contact with someone else suffering from COVID-19. His case was identified on April 14.

Marion County now has 193 cases of COVID-19, an increase of nine in a 24-hour period. Those patients were identified as 84 men, 105 women and four non-residents. Their ages range from 1-96, with an average age of 50. There have been five deaths and 28 people have been hospitalized.

The latest Marion County cases have been identified as:

  • A 33-year-old male from Ocala;
  • A 34-year-old female from Nevada;
  • A 39-year-old female from Ocala;
  • A 42-year-old male from Ocala;
  • A 43-year-old male from Ocala;
  • A 52-year-old female from Ocala; and
  • A 66-year-old female from Summerfield.

Of the Marion County cases, the majority – 137 – have been reported in Ocala. The other positive results were in Summerfield (24), Citra (7), Dunnellon (7), Belleview (5), Anthony (3), Ocklawaha (4), Silver Springs (1), Reddick (1) and The Villages (1).

Sumter County has now taken the lead in the tri-county area with 236 COVID-19 cases, an increase of just three from Monday. Of those, 171 are men, 61 are women and four are non-residents. They range in age from 17-97, with an average age of 66. There also have been 14 deaths and 41 people have been hospitalized.

Lake County is now reporting 235 cases – the same number it was reporting on Monday. They are comprised of 111 men, 112 women and 12 non-residents. They range in age from 1-86, with an average age of 52. There have been 14 deaths and 63 people have required some form of hospital care.

As of Tuesday, Marion County has tested 5,060 people, with 4,865 negative and two inconclusive results. A total of 119 people were awaiting testing.
Sumter County has tested 2,121 people, with 1,885 of those coming back negative. Twenty-four people were awaiting testing.

Lake County has tested 7,808 people, with 7,570 being negative and three being inconclusive. Another eight people were awaiting testing.

So far, 466,288 people have been tested in Florida, with 428,252 being negative and 597 inconclusive. A total of 1,265 people are awaiting testing.

All told, Florida is reporting 37,439 positive COVID-19 cases, with 36,492 being residents. There have been 1,471 deaths and 6,330 people have been hospitalized.
