Ocala man jailed after spat with woman over stimulus check

Michael William Caple

A 60-year-old Ocala man was charged with domestic battery after an argument over a stimulus check.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy on Monday that she and Michael William Caple were in an argument over the distribution of stimulus checks when Caple suddenly attacked her by hitting her in the head with an open hand and shoving with her. She said one of the shoves also knocked down her mother. The victim said Caple continued to yell and eventually left the location, according to the report.

The victim’s mother said Caple suddenly and violently attacked the victim and one of the shoves knocked the victim into her and knocked her down, the report said.

Caple told the deputy that the victim was yelling at him close to his face and spitting on him while doing so. He said he shoved the victim to get her away from him, according to the report.

Caple was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 8.
