The driver of this SUV was seriously injured Monday morning when his vehicle collided with a semi-truck and later slammed into a concrete culvert on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

An SUV driven by a 55-year-old man and a semi driven by a 54-year-old man, both of Ocala, were traveling south on I-75 in the center lane near Mile Marker 331 shortly after 9 a.m. The SUV overtook and collided with the left rear of the tractor trailer, then continued down the interstate with a shattered windshield and deployed airbags, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

After the impact, the semi came to a stop. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, wasn’t injured, according to the report.

The driver of the SUV, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, eventually lost control one mile south of the Florida Turnpike near Mile Marker 328. His vehicle then rotated into the center median and slammed into the concrete culvert, the FHP report says.
