Umatilla teen popped for DUI on Hwy. 42

Cody Thomas Neeley

An 18-year-old Umatilla man was charged with DUI after being pulled over for speeding last week on SE Highway 42.

At around 11:14 p.m. Wednesday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy using radar clocked a 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup traveling 69 mph in a 55-mph zone. While following the truck, the deputy saw it swerve well over the double line, and then swerve back over the white fog line to the right and actually drive off the roadway, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, Cody Thomas Neeley, of 17240 SE 283rd Ave. While Neeley was providing his driver’s license, the deputy observed several other ID cards belonging to other people, the report said.

The deputy observed Neeley’s speech was slurred and there was alcohol on his breath. His eyes were bloodshot and watery. When asked if he had been drinking, Neeley first said he had a beer before spontaneously saying he had four beers, according to the report.

Neeley failed a series of field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where a breath-alcohol analysis came back with readings of .157 and .153 percent – nearly twice the legal limit. Neeley was released Thursday on $1,000 bond. No court information was available.
