An Ocala teenager was pulled from a burning vehicle Saturday night after a speed-related crash in Marion County that left a 16-year-old Fort Lauderdale driver dead.
The 16-year-old’s sedan was traveling east on SW 108th Street above the posted speed limit when he failed to maintain control of the vehicle as he ran through a stop sign and turned right onto SW 186th Circle, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.
The vehicle exited the roadway, collided with a tree and burst into flames. A bystander was able to remove the 17-year-old passenger from the sedan and he was airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in critical condition. The driver was pronounced dead by personnel from Marion County Fire Rescue, the FHP report says.
The names of those involved in the crash were not released due to a recently implemented FHP policy.
