Often-arrested Belleview man jailed after fighting with two women

Douglas DeWayne Jenkins

A Belleview man who has been in and out of the Marion County Jail more than a dozen times was arrested after a fight with two women who were trying to stop him from spanking a child.

Douglas DeWayne Jenkins, 58, of SE 102nd Place, was charged with two counts of domestic battery after the latest incident, which happened around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. Jail records show Jenkins with 17 prior arrests in the county on charges including domestic battery, aggravated battery, drug possession, theft, burglary, prowling, criminal mischief, failure to pay child support, and driving without a valid license.

The first victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and the female juvenile were in an argument when Jenkins grabbed the girl and said he was going to spank her. The relationship between Jenkins, the juvenile and the two victims was redacted from the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said the juvenile started trying to resist Jenkins and the two started fighting. She said she tried to break it up and Jenkins pushed her. The victim said she pushed Jenkins back and he punched her in the face. The deputy observed a swollen red knot on the left side of the victim’s face and blood on her chin, according to the report.

The second victim said Jenkins and the juvenile were fighting in the bedroom when the first victim tried to break it up and Jenkins punched her in the face. The second victim said she tried to call law enforcement and Jenkins followed her, trying to grab her phone. She said Jenkins grabbed her by the face and picked her up off the floor. The deputy observed a scratch and some blood on the right side of the second victim’s face, the report said.

Jenkins told the deputy that he was trying to discipline the juvenile when she started resisting and fighting back. He said the first victim was in the room and he told her to leave. Jenkins said at that point, he felt someone push him and he started swinging and punched the first victim in the face. He said he never got physical with the second victim and only asked who she was trying to call. The deputy observed a large bruise and some blood above the elbow on Jenkins’ left arm, according to the report.

Jenkins was released from jail Wednesday on $1,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Aug. 4.
