Ocala man jailed after fight with elderly family member

Richard Wayne Curci

An Ocala man was arrested Monday after he admitted to knocking down a 69-year-old man during an argument over financial and family issues.

Richard Wayne Curci, 37, of Willow Run Drive, was charged with domestic battery on a person 65 years of age or older. The relationship between Curci and the victim was not disclosed in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report.

Curci told a sheriff’s deputy that he and the victim were arguing in the living room when the victim mentioned killing him. Curci said at that point, he approached the victim and pushed him to the floor, according to the report.

The victim told the deputy he and Curci were arguing, and as the altercation escalated, Curci asked him what he was going to do about it. The victim said he sarcastically replied to Curci, “Well, how about I just kill you?” He said as he was walking away, Curci came up from behind and pushed him to the floor, the report said.

The victim had carpet burns on his right knee and right elbow and said he was sore, but he declined medical treatment. He said this is not the first time Curci has battered him, according to the report.

Asked again about what happened, Curci did not mention the victim going to grab any weapons to do harm. He said he was mad about the victim saying, “Well, how about I just kill you?” Curci said the victim was in his face, but he admitted he had the opportunity to leave the altercation, the report said.

Curci was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Tuesday afternoon on $500 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on June 30.
