59-year-old Ocala man becomes 7th victim of COVID-19 in Marion County

A seventh Marion County resident has succumbed to the Coronavirus.

The latest victim was identified as a 59-year-old Ocala man who had underlying health conditions and had tested positive this past Wednesday. He hadn’t traveled recently nor had he been in contact with anyone else suffering from the virus, according to the Florida Department of Health.

On Saturday, the tri-county area was reporting 795 COVID-19 cases, an increase of eight in a 24-hour period. Those are divided among 423 men, 352 women and 20 non-residents. There have been 39 deaths and 153 people have been hospitalized.

Across the tri-county area, 33,129 residents have been tested for COVID-19, with two percent coming back positive. A total of 32,318 tests have yielded negative results, with 16 inconclusive findings and 451 people awaiting testing.

It’s unclear if any of the Summerfield cases are in the retirement communities of Del Webb Spruce Creek, Stonecrest or Spruce Creek South, as that specific information isn’t provided by the Florida Department of Health.

Lake County is reporting 298 cases, an increase of seven from Friday to Saturday. Those are divided among 137 men, 147 women and 14 non-residents. There have been 15 deaths and 75 people have required some form of hospital care.
