Ocala man sought by Marion County sheriff nabbed after high-speed pursuit

Gustavo J. Albriza

An Ocala man who was being sought by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Friday after he crashed his vehicle during a high-speed pursuit.

The chase started after a deputy spotted 34-year-old Gustavo “Gus” Albriza driving a black Mercedes-Benz on NW Gainesville Road and attempted to pull him over. Albriza ran from the deputy and eventually crashed into a tree. He then fled on foot and tried to climb into an occupied vehicle – all of which was caught on the pursuing deputy’s dash camera.

Albriza, who had been sought by Marion County deputies for several weeks, was armed with a handgun when he was arrested. He was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and siren active; possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon; robbery/carjacking with a firearm or weapon; armed burglary of a dwelling, structure or conveyance; possession of methamphetamine; resisting an officer without violence and possession of drug equipment.

Albriza also was wanted on warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. He was being held on no bond on the new charges and $12,000 on the past charges. His next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.

“There ain’t nothing better than messing up a bad guy’s day,” Woods said on a Friday afternoon Facebook post. “Individuals like Gus don’t deserve to be on the street. He deserves to be behind bars.”
