Ocala man held without bond after spat over drugs

Sidney Rechee Benton

An Ocala man is being held without bond in the Marion County Jail after a fight with a woman he allegedly accused of tampering with his drugs.

Sidney Rechee Benton, 33, was charged Wednesday with domestic battery (second offense). He was previously convicted of domestic battery in Pinellas County in July 2015 and was out on bond in Citrus County on charges of amphetamine possession and resisting an officer without violence.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Benton were arguing when he punched her in the left side of her head, causing a visible mark and swelling that the deputy observed. She said Benton also grabbed her forearms to keep her from getting away from him, causing bruises that the deputy also observed, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Benton denied there was a physical altercation. He will appear in Marion County Court on June 30.
