An upcoming virtual campaign school is targeting those who want to improve their communities by serving in appointed positions or elected offices.
Across Florida, there are more than 4,500 electable positions and thousands of appointed officials who make and shape policy for millions of Sunshine State families and businesses. From local boards, city councils and county officials to the State Legislature, there is a growing need to ensure candidates running for office understand the issues facing Florida and the state’s economic future.
With that in mind, the Ocala/Marion County Chamber & Economic Partnership (CEP) is partnering regionally with the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce and Dunnellon Chamber & Business Association to host The Florida Institute for Political Leadership.
The institute is a non-partisan program designed to recruit, train and guide people by providing leadership and training opportunities to get better candidates across the state. Organized, funded and managed by the Florida Chamber of Commerce, the institute partners with local chambers of commerce and interested organizations across Florida to host campaign schools and training programs.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the training will be provided online. The schools will provide a briefing on emerging local and state issues, teach attendees about local opportunities available for appointed or elected positions, offer guidance on how to prepare to run for office in the future and provide training on how to run winning campaigns during the 2020 election cycle and beyond.
The online school is broken up into a three day, 2.5-hour sessions per day. Sessions will be held June 23, 24 and 25 from 9:30 a.m.-noon. Each day will focus on the important milestones of the campaign – how to prepare to run for office, how to build the winning campaign organization and voter communications.
