Marion County adds five more COVID-19 patients as Florida tops 60,000 cases

Marion County reported five more cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, with four of those being Ocala residents.

The latest cases in Ocala, where 186 patients have been identified, include a 31-year-old woman and three men ages 81, 42 and 19. The fifth new case was identified as a 58-year-old woman living in Belleview.

Marion County now has 261 cases. They are comprised of 113 men, 143 women and five non-residents. They range in age from 6 months to 97, with an average age of 48. There have been seven deaths and 36 people have been seen in area hospitals.

In addition to the cases in Ocala – 71.2 percent of those in the county – COVID-19 patients also have been identified in Summerfield (29), Dunnellon (11), Citra (10), Belleview (8), Ocklawaha (4), Anthony (3), Reddick (2), Silver Springs (1) and The Villages (1).

As of Thursday, the tri-county area was reporting 834 total cases among 437 men, 376 women and 21 non-residents. There have been 39 deaths and 159 people have been hospitalized.

Sumter County now has 260 cases divided among 183 men, 76 women and one non-resident. They range in age from 17 to 92, with an average age of 65. There have been 17 deaths and 45 people have required some form of hospital care.

Of the Sumter County cases, 121 have been reported in Bushnell at the Sumter Correctional Institution (105 inmates and 16 staff members). Other cases have been identified in The Villages (68), Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (17), Wildwood (9), Webster (8), Lady Lake portion of the county (6), Sumterville (5) and Coleman (3). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified six cases among four staff members and two inmates.

Lake County is now reporting 313 cases among 141 men, 157 women and 15 non-residents. They range in age from 1 to 98, with average age of 52. There have been 15 deaths reported and 78 people have required some form of hospital care.

Clermont leads the way in Lake County with 101 cases. Others have been identified in Leesburg (47), Eustis (27), Tavares (20), Lady Lake (17), Groveland (17), Mount Dora (17), Mascotte (13), The Villages (9), Fruitland Park (6), Minneola (6), Sorrento (4), Montverde (4), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (1), Grand Island (1), Paisley (1) and Yalaha (1).

All told, Florida is reporting 60,183 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 1,419 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 58,701 are residents. There have been 2,607 deaths and 10,652 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
