A Reddick woman who accused a man of grabbing her by the throat ended up being the one arrested when cell phone video showed her dumping beer on him and smashing a bottle near him.
Syntheria Denise Perry, 20, was charged with simple battery after the recent incident at the residence on NW 155th Street where she and the victim live. Perry told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and the victim had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical when he grabbed her by the throat.
The victim told the deputy he never put his hands on her throat. He said he did try to grab beer bottles from her hand when she tried to throw them at him and his vehicle. He provided video that showed Perry screaming at him while he walked away from the altercation, according to the sheriff’s office report.
Perry is seen in the video pouring an entire bottle of beer on the victim before screaming at him to hit her. She is then seen shattering a beer bottle on the pavement. On the video, Perry then picks up around three empty glass beer bottles and is about to throw them at the victim when he grabs them from her hand before going off-camera, the report said.
The video shows Perry running up to the victim, screaming that she is going to put him in jail. At no times does the video show the victim place his hands on Perry’s throat, according to the report.
After being read her Miranda rights, Perry admitted to dumping the beer on the victim and smashing a bottle in anger. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released on her own recognizance. Perry is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on July 14.
