Community leaders welcome Amazon distribution center to Ocala commerce park

The Ocala/Marion County Chamber & Economic Partnership has joined with the Ocala City Council and the Marion County Board of County Commissioners to officially welcome Amazon’s new distribution facility in Ocala.

Amazon has leased a 617,000-square-foot spec building being constructed by Red Rock Developments in the Ocala/Marion County Commerce Park along Interstate 75.

The company has leased the 617,000-square-foot spec building being constructed by Red Rock Developments. The new facility will initially create 120 jobs, all making at least $15 per hour.

“The CEP is pleased to welcome Amazon to our community,” said Angie Lewis, CEP Board Chair. “What an incredible addition to the Ocala Metro! We look forward to seeing their brand welcoming residents to the area.”

The new Amazon facility is located in the Ocala/Marion County Commerce Park along Interstate 75. The company is joining existing park tenants Chewy.com, AutoZone and FedEx Ground, which all operate logistic facilities in the park.

Amazon’s identity had been kept secret for quite some time, referred to only as Project Needles. But it leaked out in March when the E-commerce giant was identified on a building permit that was pulled by CFL Ocala Property LLC. The permit was for the installation of interior storage racks in an existing warehouse that will be used as a distribution center.
