Swerving 62-year-old Ocala man popped for DUI

Daniel Ernest Adams

A 62-year-old Ocala man was arrested on DUI charges over the weekend after being pulled over for driving erratically.

Shortly before midnight Saturday, a Marion County sheriff’s deputy observed a 1994 red Jeep traveling southbound on SW 60th Avenue, swerving between the lane lines, accelerating then decelerating for no apparent reason, and making multiple lane changes for no apparent reason.

The vehicle also stopped well before the stop bar at the intersection of SW 27th Avenue and Highway 200. The deputy observed the vehicle’s registration was expired for more than six months, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 5800 block of Highway 200 and spoke with driver and sole occupant Daniel Ernest Adams, of 2251 SW 90th St. Adams was sweating profusely and his speech was slurred. Another deputy arrived on the scene and also observed Adams was sweating profusely, his speech was slurred, and the odor of alcohol emitted from the vehicle every time Adams spoke, the report said.

After failing a series of field sobriety tests, Adams arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. Once at the jail, he refused to submit to a breath test. Adams was previously charged with DUI in August 2017, according to the report.

Adams was charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a DUI test after having his license suspended. He was released Sunday on $2,000 bond. No court information was available.
