Ocklawaha man in search of Xanax accused of pulling pistol on woman

Kaylen Austin Cole

An Ocklawaha man was arrested recently after he allegedly pointed a pistol at a woman who wouldn’t help him obtain Xanax.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Kaylen Austin Cole, 28, asked her if she could help him find or buy Xanax and when she said she couldn’t, he grabbed a tan 9mm pistol and started waving it around and pointing it at her. She said Cole said, “I’ll (expletive deleted) shoot you then (expletive deleted) kill myself,” according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she left the residence and went to the Mobil gas station at 13530 E. Hwy. 25, which is where she met the deputy. She said Cole has pointed a firearm at her in the past and she is in fear of him harming her if he doesn’t get help for his drug addition, the report said.

Interviewed later in the day, Cole told the deputy he owns a Taurus 9mm pistol that is colored “coyote grey,” which he then clarified by saying it is sort of tan. He said at no time did he pullout the pistol and point it at her, nor did he ever make any threats to kill the her. Cole also said the pistol was in his gun safe all day and was never out, according to the report.

Cole later said his cousin was there when he and the victim were arguing over not finding any Xanax. He said that was at about 4 p.m. When told that the victim said the argument happened earlier in the morning, Cole said a different argument happened when the cousin was present, the report said.

Cole was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released on $2,000 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on July 21.
