Larry “Chief” Fleming

Larry “Chief” Fleming, 79 of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully from Glioblastoma Brain Cancer on June 16, 2020, at home in Ocala Florida.

Chief Fleming was born on April 6, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Larry attended Robert A Taft High School in Cincinnati in 1959 and was raised by his adopted parents John and Minnie Fleming. He married Ellen Soisson April 22, 1978, in Camillus, NY.

Larry was enlisted in the US Army from 1959-1965. He was stationed in Germany where he was made Sergeant (SP-5) from 1960-1962 then was in the Reserves from 1962-1965. In
retirement, he was Active in Ocala Palms Honor/Color Guard, Lead the Final Salute Memorial Services for Veterans and many other Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day services in Ocala Palms.

Larry in his spare time was a basketball official for High School and Lvy League Colleges. He was a past President of the International Association of Approved Basketball officials Chapter 38. He loved card games of any kind, especially poker. Larry was also an active member of Meadowbrook Church Safety team, Ocala FL.

Larry attended Syracuse University for Executive Criminal Justice Management, Municipal
Police training, and FBI Investigative Training.

In 1967 Larry joined the Camillus Police Department shortly after in 1979 he was appointed
Chief of Police.

In 1987, he was elected the President of the Central NY Chiefs of Police. After serving 26 years he retired from the forces having accomplished his time. He then accepted a job with the Turning Stone Casino in Verona NY, as Deputy Director of Enterprise Security from 1993 until 1999.

Upon retiring from the Turning Stone Casino he moved to Ocala, Florida. In Ocala Larry
secured his second passion and accepted the position of Director of Security and Director of
Risk Management for Steinbrenner’s Properties including the NY Yankees from 2000-2009.

Chief Larry is survived by his wife and love of his life for 42 years Ellen, children Jami Dippold, Mike White, and Diana Johnson (Kirk). Grandchildren Allen Dippold, Kylan Johnson and Kalina Johnson, Sister Phyllis Blair (Richard), Brother-in-law Paul Carr and Sister-in-law Jane Vollrath.

Memorial services will be held at Meadowbrook Church in Ocala Florida, at a later date.

In place of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave, Ocala FL 34474.
