FedEx driver helps Marion sheriff’s deputies nab Umatilla man after pursuit

Michael Scott Tyler

A man was jailed recently after a FedEx driver helped Marion County sheriff’s deputies take him into custody.

Deputies observed a white Ford truck driving recklessly on S.E. 182nd Avenue Road and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as 37-year-old Michael Scott Tyler, refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated, a sheriff’s office report states.

Tyler, of Umatilla, eventually stopped and fled on foot. He was apprehended a short time later with the assistance of the delivery driver who saw him walking in the area, the report says.

Tyler, a registered sex offender, told deputies that he had ingested methamphetamine and was transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared. He was then taken to the Marion County Jail and charged with fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer with lights and siren active, driving while license suspended (second offense), carrying a concealed unlicensed electric weapon or device, resisting an officer without violence and two counts of contempt of court for failure to comply with sex offender requirements. He was being held on no bond and is due in Marion County Court on July 21.
