Belleview woman arrested after nasty shirt-ripping scuffle with guy pal

Kayla Marie Perfumo-Braz

A 28-year-old Belleview woman was jailed Thursday morning after her man friend claimed she hit him and ripped his shirt.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies were called to a Belleview residence, where the man told them that he had gotten into an argument with Kayla Marie Perfumo-Braz when she tried to leave their home with an unnamed person. The man claimed that Perfumo-Braz hit him on the left side of his neck with her closed fist as he was blocking her from getting into his truck, a sheriff’s office report states.

Deputies noted a red mark on the man’s neck “that was consistent with his account of events.” They also noted that he was wearing a ripped-open shirt “with multiple buttons missing,” the report says.

Perfumo-Braz admitted that she and the man got into an argument but she claimed she only got physical because he “became aggressive and head-butted her on the forehead and nose.” She said she pushed the man away and she was forced to pull on his shirt because he wasn’t getting out of her way so she could get into his truck, the report says.

Deputies noted that Perfumo-Braz didn’t have any redness or bruising consistent with her account of events. They spoke with the man a second time and he denied head-butting her, the report says.

Perfumo-Braz was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with simple domestic battery. She was released Friday night on her own recognizance and is due in court Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.
