Ocala man jailed after battered lady friend details attack with leather belt

Armegol Ortega

An Ocala man was arrested early Thursday morning after his bruised and lacerated lady friend said he came home and “became angry and aggressive.”

Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence on N.W. 113th Court and when they arrived, the woman said 37-year-old Armegol Ortega had grabbed a leather belt and struck her with it “multiple times.” Deputies noted that the woman had “obvious fresh contusions and lacerations” on both of her shoulders and she denied medical treatment.

After being read his rights, Ortega claimed someone whose name was redacted from the report had “been teaching bad behaviors” and he became upset because the woman “does not get involved.” He denied any physical altercations and claimed the marks on the woman came from “working with horses,” the report says.

Ortega was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery. He was being held on $2,000 bond and is due in court Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
