Marion firefighters evacuate 25 mobile homes after lawn mower cuts gas line

Marion County firefighters evacuated 25 residences at the Marion Pines Mobile Home Park in Ocala on Friday morning after a gas line was accidentally cut.

A 911 caller reported that the line was severed by a lawn mower at the park, located in the 2800 block of N.E. 49th Avenue, shortly before 10:30 a.m. The caller reported hearing the leak and smelling gas, a report says.

Rolling Greens Engine Company #28 was the first to arrive, with firefighters quickly establishing command, completing a surveillance of the area and verifying that a high-pressure gas line was leaking. Fire crews began an immediate evacuation of nearby mobile homes, a report says.

A gas leak was reported Friday morning in the Marion Pines Mobile Home Park after the line was accidentally cut by a lawn mower.

Firefighters from East Marion Station #4 and Medic #63 arrived a short time later to assist in the evacuation. Marion County Fire Rescue’s Special Operations HAZMAT team members on Engine Company #16 and Heavy Rescue #1 mitigated the leak until TECO Peoples Gas technicians arrived to repair the line.
