Ocala man with expired tag popped while driving with suspended license

Steven Lamar Mack

An Ocala man found himself behind bars early Thursday morning after a Marion County sheriff’s deputy spotted him driving with an expired license tag.

The deputy stopped a 1993 light blue Chevrolet pickup truck in the 6500 block of N. Hwy. 441 and spoke with the driver, 36-year-old Steven Lamar Mack. The deputy noted that the vehicle also had a large crack extending from the top to the bottom of the windshield.

After being asked for his driver’s license, Mack told the deputy he didn’t have it with him. After being questioned further, Mack admitted that his license had been suspended for failure to pay child support, the report says.

A criminal history check showed that Mack had two prior convictions for driving while license suspended, which was dated Feb. 15, 2007 from a Gainesville Police case. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail.

Mack, who lives in the 2600 block of S.W. 117th Court in Ocala, was charged with driving while license suspended (third or subsequent offense) and an outstanding contempt of court warrant. He was released late Thursday night and his next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
