Ocala woman nabbed on DUI charge jailed after battling deputies at jail

Lisa Jean Pelis

A 46-year-old Ocala woman who was arrested recently for driving under the influence was soon facing additional charges after allegedly battling sheriff’s deputies at the Marion County Jail.

A deputy stopped Lisa Pelis in the 10500 block of SE 62nd Avenue Road. The deputy reported that she showed signs of being impaired, which was confirmed after she failed field sobriety exercises, a report says, adding that her driver’s license also was suspended.

Pelis refused to provide a breath sample, which she had done after a prior arrest on the same charge. She also was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, the report says.

After being transported to the jail, Pelis allegedly refused to cooperate with the booking staff and started fighting and even kicking one of the deputies. She eventually had to be tased so deputies could get her under control, the report says.

Pelis was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, refusing to submit to a DUI test after license suspended, knowingly driving while license suspended or revoked, possession and/or use of drug equipment, battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence. She was being held on $16,000 bond and is due in court Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.
