The Ocala Police Department is searching for a Good Samaritan who recently came to the aid of an officer who was forced to battle a suspect.
Officer Aaron Prather was attempting to take a man into custody recently who was actively resisting arrest. The man started striking Prather in the head and trying to cover his nose/mouth while they were on the ground fighting, a police report states.
A group of about 20 people watched the incident take place and only one person came to Prather’s aid. That man helped grab ahold of the suspect’s arm and keep him from punching Prather until other officers arrived, the report says.
The incident took place at the Winn-Dixie plaza at 3435 N. Pine Ave. The Police Department is hoping to locate the man to thank him for assisting Prather. He was described as an older white male with gray hair who was wearing a “Police Week” T-shirt.
