Belleview man jailed after nasty spat over TV remote

Stephen Lawrence Hance

A 24-year-old Belleview man was arrested after he allegedly battered a woman during an argument over a TV remote control.

Two Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded Monday night to a residence on SE 115th Loop. The woman who reported the incident said her daughter called her and said Stephen Lawrence Hance was pushing her around and asked that she call law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim told a deputy she was involved a verbal argument with Hance over him asking her for the remote control to her television. She said Hance became angry, grabbed her by the arms and threw her to the ground. The deputy observed a red mark on the victim’s left arm, just below her bicep, the report said.

Hance told the other deputy he was involved in a verbal argument with the victim, but he denied anything physical happened. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held on $250 bond. Hance will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 23.
