Historic Marion Theatre announces pre-opening event and September programming

Ocala’s historic Marion Theatre is preparing to resume normal operations.

The venue will host several pre-opening events at the end of August and then swing into full gear beginning Sept. 10.

The Marion Theatre’s new standard film schedule will be as follows:

  • Thursday: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Due to current COVID-19 guidelines restricting the operation of theatre, the Marion will operate at a safe and extremely reduced capacity. The venue, which traditionally holds around 300 guests, will be limited to no more than 60 guests per film/event. Guests will be seated by group/family and distanced in accordance with state guidelines.

During this time tickets to the Marion Theatre will be sold as general admission. After COVID-19 related restrictions are eased, the Marion will offer select-a-seat experiences for all patrons.

The Marion’s concession offerings also have been revamped with a full beer, wine and drink menu in addition to popcorn and snacks. Mobile ordering and delivery will be available to reduce congestion in the lobby for all food and drink items.

The Marion Theatre’s event calendar, showtimes and ticket information can be found at www.MarionTheatre.org. You also can stay up to date on event updates by following the Marion Theatre on Facebook at Ocala’s Marion Theatre.

  • Tickets are now on sale for Spielberg Saturday on Aug. 29 at the Marion Theatre. This is one of several pre-opening events. This day will feature three of Steven Spielberg’s most epic films for guests to enjoy, like never before, in the comfort of the iconic theatre. • E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – 11:00 a.m.
