Reggae House has officially opened its doors and is serving up authentic Jamaican food at a previously shuttered east Ocala location.
The restaurant, which is located at 2506 SE 17th Street, was formerly occupied by La Famiglia Pizzeria before the owner sold the business in August of last year amidst health problems.Â
Although capacity is limited in accordance with social distancing, the newly renovated dining room is spacious, open and inviting, with Jamaican figures and images filling the walls.
The menu at Reggae House is chock full of Jamaican mainstays. Jerk chicken, shrimp and pork, as well as saltfish and a variety of curries are all available, many in a variety of portion sizes.
The Oxtail plate, a classic Jamaican favorite, is stewed until tender and includes sweet plantains, rice and steamed cabbage.
The ever-popular Jamaican meat patties are available with meat or jerk chicken as the filling.
Reggae House is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Monday.Â
