Semi hauling oranges bursts into flames on Interstate 75 in Marion County

Traffic on Interstate 75 was backed up for several miles Tuesday morning after a semi-truck burst into flames.

Crews from Marion County Fire Rescue and troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a truck fire on Interstate 75 early Tuesday morning. The semi, which was hauling oranges, caught fire after an issue with its brakes, a report states.
Burnt oranges covered the shoulder of the southbound lane of Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 372 early Tuesday morning after a semi caught fire, reportedly following an issue with its brakes.

Marion County firefighters at 7:41 a.m. responded to the incident in the southbound lanes of the interstate near Mile Marker 372. When they arrived a short time later, they found a burning semi loaded with oranges. Fire crews deployed two hose lines and had the fire under control within minutes, a Marion County Fire Rescue report states.

Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane during the incident. A preliminary investigation showed that the truck’s brakes caught fire and then spread to the trailer, the report says.
